China is famed for its cultural and historical treasures, not it beaches. Yet this giant country does indeed has some very beautiful, sub-tropical beach on the island of Hainan. Most are found in and around Sanya, which has emerged as China's one, famed international beach destination. There are just a few on the north side of Hainan, and then just a few more on mainland beaches near Beihai.
We expect we will find more local hotels along the coast of China in coming years, but unless they have a website in English they will not be of much use to the international community. In most parts of China away from tourist centres there is almost no-one who speaks English, and few signs not in Chinese, making travel exceptionally difficult.
