This rather remote part of Bali's coast is runs both sides of the famous Tanah Lot Temple, an hour and a half drive from the airport. There are black sand beaches here, with many of them at the foot of tall cliffs or in small coves. This is a rugged and beautiful part of Bali.
It is included in our maps due to just two qualified beachfront resorts here, one small and simple, the other a huge, international-standard complex and golf course.
The latter, Le Meridien Nirwana Golf & Spa Resort, occupies a full kilometre of coast, most of it high cliffs affording dramatic views up and down the coast. The golf course runs back even further than that. There is a small bay and beach with black sand that golfers pass doing the rounds. Tanah Lot temple can be seen from the hotel.
This hotel, with adjoining golf course, is surely the biggest in Bali, set in both expansive gardens and the surrounding golf fairways. Naturally, this offers the full range of services befitting of a 5-star international resort. It also has a conference room for up to 300 people, plus a spa with massage, health & wellness and spa treatments. This has a club for children, providing for families when dad is hitting his ball. This also offers wheelchair access.
Waka Gangga is as interesting as its name, with unusual and creative design in its beach cottages, and an interesting concept. It is set on a remote black sand beach. See our Editor beach photos of this beach escape, for words are not enough. This is definitely for those seeking solitude and relaxation. For couples not needing outside entertainment, this could make an excellent, romantic getaway.
