Modtanoy Resort is an unusual resort – and one that people who enjoy isolation and tranquillity might enjoy finding - best done by those driving their own vehicle. As the very local name suggests, this beachfront resort is aimed entirely at the local Thai market, particularly those living in nearby Trang town. There are thus more guests on weekends than on weekdays. Few foreign tourists are seen here, though they are certainly welcome.
The resort accommodations are large, almost the size of houses, and are spread over a very wide area shaded by coconut palms and casuarina trees. There is a large restaurant set back from the beach a little, serving the full variety of Thai dishes at good prices. Here you can be sure of getting authentic Thai spicing and flavours.
The beach in front of the resort is wide, sandy, and virtually always empty. Modtanoy is about as good for peace and quiet in a truly Thai environment as one can find on a Thai beach.

Kayaks are available and one can paddle along the beach or, more interestingly, head up the river which is just to one side. As one photo in the gallery shows, there is a view across the estuary to the small port and village at Haad Yao jetty, the jumping off point for Koh Libong. You can kayak across to this for the small shops and restaurants.
